Anthony Straat

St. Paul’s Lutheran cemetery, Red Hook. A short sandstone tablet with shouldered tympanum top—marbles with similar design and stature on either side—on the north of the center access road, close to the church.

Anthony (or Antoni) Straat was born the son of Adriaan Straat and Geertje Caspar in Tappan. He married Elizabeth Boys from Germany in Rhinebeck in 1760.
The couple went forth and were incredibly fruitful, having at least 11 children over the course of 27 years. Those who made it to adulthood were Rachel, 1760 who married Jacob I. Miller, Gertje, 1762 who married Frederick Neher, Jacob, 1765 who married Catharina Muller, Christina, 1768 who married Andrew Vries and removed to Wayne County, NY, John, 1770 who married Susannah Mohr, Anthony, 1772 who married Elizabeth Diehl, Catalina, 1776 who married John Fulmer, Abraham, 1779 who married Catharina Shook, Elizabeth, 1784 who married Jacob Philips and removed to Canada, and Catherine, 1787 who married Thomas Lewis.
Anthony died in 1813 and Geertje followed in 1822.
