Revolutionary War Veteran, 6th Regiment, Albany County Militia
Andrew Drom (or Drum) was born in 1759, baptised on March 11th in Rhinebeck (in the northern part that would become Red Hook) to Johannes Drom and Elies Kreuseler. He married Dorothea Widerwachs (later this name is sometimes spelled Witherwax). They had three children we know of, Maria, born 1791, Elizabeth born 1793, and Johannes, 1797–1886.
Andrew’s grandfather Hans Jacob Drom and great-grandfather Johan Andreas Drom were Palatine immigrants from Niederkirchen, Bad Durkheim in what is now Rhineland-Pfalz, Germany. His mother’s Kreisler family were from the same area.
His service in the Revolutionary war was in Albany County. This sounds far from Red Hook, but, at the time, what would be Columbia County was part of Albany County. He was one of many enlisted men who served under Captain George Sharp in the 6th Regiment of Col. Stephen Schuyler’s Albany County Militia.
