Elmendorph Green Project
Thanks to a generous $160,000 matching gift, Historic Red Hook acquired the next-door property, 5 Cherry Street, in 2018. This was our first bold step toward a dynamic community campus to be realized in three phases.
Phase One features:
A large central lawn for seasonal events, such as “Music-on-the-Green” concerts and outdoor festivals;
A StoryStudio in the Cherry Street building, featuring exhibits, accessible archives, and space for researching, recording and preserving family histories
Phase Two features more of the collaborative programs that our members and partners often suggest, including “Farm-to-Table” and “Preservation Trade” workshops and includes an upgraded Elmendorph Inn kitchen to accommodate increased program activity;
Phase Three features secure, climate-controlled archival space for collections study and storage and a paid executive director to manage daily operations and sustainable growth.
To support our Elmendorph Green Project, we’ve advanced $80,000 from our cash reserves and launched a capital campaign to match the $160,000 gift challenge. We are now more than two-thirds of the way to our Phase One goal of $240,000. Donate now to help us reach our goal!
